Tamil is one of the oldest languages in the world. It is mainly spoken in Tamilnadu (a state in Southern India), Sri Lanka, Singapore and Malaysia and has official language status in these nations. Tamil people have also migrated to other parts of the world over the years. The United Kingdom, Canada and Australia all have large Tamil populations. Tamil communities can also be found in many other European countries (Netherlands, Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, and Finland), the USA, Middle Eastern countries, South Africa and New Zealand.
It is said that Tamil is the most difficult language to learn next to Chinese. The language contains 247 characters. Tamil is spoken by more than seventy million people around the world. When William Carey traveled to India, he found that the New Testament was already available in Tamil. It was the first eastern language in which the Bible was translated.
Sound Christian literature in Tamil is far and few.We hope that by the grace of God more would be published to meet the great need.
